What should I know about being 'Jet Lagged'? Jet lag is your body's way of asking you to not upset its normal cycle. Your body has become accustomed to falling asleep and waking up at certain times during the day. If you go suddenly 'jet'
across several time zones, your body doesn't care or really know the difference - it still wants to fall asleep at its normal time. Jet lag affects us physically (swollen feet), mentally (disorientation) and emotionally (anxiety) and can hinder our ability to perform on business trips or to enjoy vacations. Studies have suggested that monitoring your diet before your travels can help to reduce the time it takes to transition into a new time zone. One example of these studies has been published by the Argonne National Laboratory called the Jet Lag Diet. For more information on jet lag, see Diana Fairechild's Jetlag. Two rules of thumb: - It takes approximately one day per hour of time shift to completely recover from jet lag. - It is also much more difficult to travel east than it is to travel west.
